JAMMU, JULY 13, 2026 — The Bharatiya Janata Party has served a Rs 100 crore legal notice to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah following controversial remarks made during a party convention in Srinagar on July 11, 2026. The notice, issued by High Court Advocate Parimoksh Seth on behalf of BJP Jammu and Kashmir President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Paul Sharma, fiercely refutes Abdullah’s public allegations as false, malicious, and entirely baseless. The legal notice officially demands a complete, written withdrawal of the statements along with an unconditional public apology within a strict seven-day window.
The legal dispute centers on statements made by Abdullah accusing a senior BJP functionary and Supreme Court lawyer of attempting to bribe National Conference MLAs from the Jammu region. According to the Chief Minister’s highly publicized remarks, NC lawmakers were allegedly offered inducements ranging from Rs 20 to 30 crores, ministerial portfolios, and promises regarding the restoration of statehood in exchange for switching political allegiances. The BJP maintains that these widely circulated claims have inflicted severe, calculated damage on the reputation, public dignity, and societal standing of the political organization.
Warning of severe judicial consequences, the ruling party has made it clear that a failure to comply with the notice will result in immediate civil and criminal proceedings, including a formal defamation suit seeking Rs 100 crores in damages. Highlighting its status as the world’s largest political organization with over 14 crore registered members operating under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party’s legal counsel has ordered Abdullah to immediately cease and desist from issuing, publishing, or repeating any further defamatory material against the party.
