MOIRANG, JULY 12, 2026: The inaugural Bishnupur District Olympic Games 2026 reached a spectacular conclusion today at the Chengei Lampak grounds in Moirang, marking a historic milestone for grassroots sports in the region. The multi-sport event successfully showcased the raw talent, intense determination, and vibrant athletic spirit of young competitors hailing from all corners of the district. The closing ceremony served as a celebration of youth empowerment through sports, drawing local communities together to honor the achievements of the region’s rising sports stars.
Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, attended the valedictory function as the chief guest, where he formally congratulated the athletes, coaches, technical officials, volunteers, and organizing committee members for executing the landmark tournament seamlessly. In his address, Bhalla underscored the critical role that grassroots tournaments play in building a robust sports culture. He noted that localized initiatives like the Bishnupur District Olympic Games perfectly align with and complement central flagship schemes like Khelo India and the Fit India Movement.
Furthermore, the Governor highlighted that the presence of the National Sports University within Manipur plays a pivotal role in cementing the state’s long-standing reputation as India’s powerhouse of sporting excellence. Looking ahead, he envisioned a broader sporting roadmap for the state, expressing his optimism that identical district-level Olympic events will soon be institutionalized across all districts of Manipur. According to Bhalla, expanding this framework statewide is essential for scouting, nurturing, and mentoring the next generation of international champions.
