SRINAGAR, JULY 12, 2026: In a significant push toward cultural preservation and youth empowerment, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the prestigious Lal Ded Literature Awards ceremony in Srinagar today. During the event, the Lieutenant Governor officially launched a new book authored by Vaidehi Taman titled “Lal Ded: The Mother of Kashmir.” Addressing a gathering of prominent intellectuals, artists, and senior officials, Sinha emphasized the crucial role of the younger generation in driving the nation’s progress, calling them the ultimate builders of the future. He urged the youth to reject ordinary achievements, dream big, and remain deeply anchored in their heritage while striving for excellence through collective hard work and patience.
Highlighting the foundational philosophy of the country, Sinha remarked that India’s enduring strength lies in its ability to balance scientific progress with profound spiritual values. He noted that true societal advancement requires the harmonious efforts of both scientists and spiritualists. Describing India’s rich spiritual and cultural identity as a torch passed down through centuries, the Lieutenant Governor made a passionate appeal to the youth to keep this flame alive. He stressed that now is the opportune time to leverage this rich legacy to inspire millions of young minds in Jammu and Kashmir, giving them a distinct purpose to innovate and build a completely self-reliant Union Territory.
Sinha further observed that India’s core traditions remain vibrant from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, serving as a unifying force for the entire society. While clarifying that he does not advocate living in the past, he urged writers, thinkers, and educators to preserve the truth and grace of our heritage so that the community remains resilient—much like a deep-rooted tree facing strong winds. He extended two specific invitations to society: to reclaim lost cultural traditions such as regional languages, songs, or stories, and to actively inspire the next generation to protect their cultural identity. In recognition of the awardees, Sinha lauded the educators, authors, and artists for shaping responsible citizens and providing the youth with the moral and spiritual compass necessary to navigate a rapidly changing, technology-driven world.
Concluding his address, the Lieutenant Governor made five strategic requests to the intellectual community: encourage independent thinking among youth, document and share local culture globally, apply academic ideas to solve real-world problems, mentor the next generation for national service, and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration to tackle modern challenges like climate change. In response to a proposal raised during the event, Sinha assured that appropriate steps would be taken to establish a dedicated museum honoring the profound contributions of great historical personalities like Lal Ded. The high-profile event was attended by former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, former Member of Parliament Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, eminent writer Neerja Mattoo, author Vaidehi Taman, alongside senior administrative and police officials including Principal Secretary Culture Brij Mohan Sharma and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo.
