KATHUA, JULY 12, 2026: In a major crackdown on the region’s drug trade, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua successfully executed a detention warrant under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act against a notorious, habitual drug peddler. The operation, conducted under the direct supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua Mohita Sharma, resulted in the apprehension and subsequent lodging of the accused at the District Jail in Bhaderwah.
The operation unfolded following a comprehensive investigation by a specialized police team from the Hiranagar Police Station, led by the Station House Officer. Working under the operational guidance of the Superintendent of Police (Operations) Kathua and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer Border Kathua, the team executed the high-profile detention warrant issued by the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu.
The detained individual has been identified as Sajid Hussain, son of Junaid Ali, residing in Garha Kamad, Tehsil Hiranagar, District Kathua. According to law enforcement records, Hussain is a habitual offender with a history of orchestrating the illegal possession and transportation of narcotics across various sectors of the Kathua district. Police officials noted that he has been a persistent threat to public health and safety, with two separate major drug trafficking cases already active against him. His criminal history includes FIR No. 124/2025 under sections 8, 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act registered at the Rajbagh Police Station, alongside FIR No. 41/2026 under sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act at the Hiranagar Police Station.
Recognizing his continuous involvement in the local narcotics supply chain despite ongoing prosecutions, Kathua Police compiled a detailed dossier outlining his illicit activities. This dossier was forwarded to the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, who subsequently validated the police’s findings and issued the preventive detention warrant under the PIT-NDPS Act of 1988. Following the execution of the order, Hussain was transferred to the District Jail Bhaderwah to prevent further disruption to the community. This strict anti-drug initiative has drawn widespread appreciation from local residents, who welcomed the administration’s decisive stance against drug syndicates in Kathua.
