Kathua administration launches mobile blood collection van for remote hilly areas of Basohli and Bani

KATHUA, June 13, 2026 :- Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma flagged off a specialized blood collection and transport van from the DC Office Complex today to serve the remote and hilly subdivisions of Basohli and Bani.

The initiative aims to facilitate voluntary blood donation camps and significantly strengthen emergency healthcare infrastructure in the far-flung pockets of the district.The modern mobile unit is equipped with facilities for on-spot collection and has the capacity to safely store and preserve up to 60 units of blood under optimal temperature conditions.

All blood collected during the field drives will be transported to the Government Medical College Kathua for utilization and critical transfusion support.

Launched ahead of World Blood Donor Day on June 14, the campaign seeks to boost public awareness and encourage voluntary participation among rural communities.

Lauding the joint efforts of the Health Department and the JK Blood Donors and Welfare Society, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that extending healthcare reach to difficult terrains is vital for saving lives during emergencies. He urged local youth and social organizations to enthusiastically support the initiative.

Former DDC Member Sandeep Majotra shared the roadmap of the campaign, noting that nearly 100 donors have already registered for the upcoming drives.The transport van is scheduled to cover areas including Basohli, Bhoond Bani, Lowang, and Sarthal. The flagging-off ceremony was attended by several senior officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahima Madan, ASP Sunil Kesar, and JK Blood Donors and Welfare Society Founder Malkeet Singh, along with healthcare workers and volunteers.
