Police team and SOG personnel return fire in self-defence after suspected criminals open fire in Jammu Gandhi Nagar
JAMMU, May 26, 2026 — A joint team from the Gandhi Nagar Police Station and the Special Operations Group came under fire from suspected criminals during an operational action in the Mini Market area near Green Belt Park this evening.
Around 6:00 PM, the Police personnel proceeded to the location to intercept the suspects, who immediately attempted to flee the spot.
In their escape bid, the suspects deliberately rammed their vehicle into an SOG vehicle and opened fire on the police party.
In response to the immediate threat, the SOG personnel retaliated in self-defence by returning fire. Following the brief shootout, authorities immediately secured the entire area and rushed additional police reinforcements to the spot to prevent any further escalation.
The police have taken formal cognizance of the crime committed, and further legal action is underway to track down the involved individuals.
