Government targets off-beat destinations to boost adventure tourism in Jammu and Kashmir

KULGAM, May 25, 2026:- The government is actively strengthening the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir by developing offbeat locations and promoting adventure tourism activities across the region.

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo announced the initiative while inaugurating a Tourism Capacity Building Camp at Panchanpatri Kulgam.

During the event, the minister also flagged off an All-Terrain Rally, a trekkers’ expedition, and a cycle rally designed to promote regional tourism.The capacity building programme was organized to raise tourism awareness, foster adventure sports, and increase youth participation in the tourism sector across the district.

These initiatives provide a practical platform to inform the youth about various government schemes focused on tourism, employment generation, and self-employment opportunities. The promotion of unexplored tourist destinations is expected to attract more visitors while simultaneously creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for local communities.

Involving youth and local stakeholders remains a priority for the economic development of the region. The camp saw a large turnout of tourism stakeholders, tour and travel operators, local representatives, district officers, and youth who welcomed the efforts to upgrade tourism infrastructure.

The event featured active participation in trekking and cycling, showcasing the adventure tourism potential of Panchanpatri and its adjoining areas.
