SRINAGAR, May 25, 2026 — The Indian Army has once again come forward to lead a large-scale rescue operation at the Gulmarg Gondola after a technical failure left dozens of cable car cabins suspended mid-air.
Moving swiftly to assist the trapped visitors, the Army Chinar Corps launched a coordinated rescue effort alongside the official Gulmarg Gondola operators.
Trained rescue teams immediately deployed specialized equipment to reach the passengers and ensure their safety under challenging high-altitude conditions.
The technical snag initially left 65 cable car cabins completely stranded along the ropeway circuit. Displaying exceptional efficiency, the joint rescue teams have already safely evacuated 80 passengers from 16 of the affected cabins.
Army personnel and local authorities are continuing their intensive rescue operations on the ground to safely bring down the remaining tourists trapped in the rest of the cabins, with further updates expected as the mission progresses.
