Petrol and diesel prices rise again as global crude costs surge
NEW DELHI, May 25, 2026 — State-run oil marketing companies have increased petrol and diesel prices by 2.61 rupees to 2.71 rupees per litre.
This marks the fourth fuel price hike within the last 11 days, driven primarily by rising global crude oil prices.
With this latest increase, the cumulative hike in fuel rates has crossed 7.5 rupees per litre since daily revisions resumed on May 15 following a long freeze period.
In Delhi, petrol now costs 102.12 rupees per litre, up from 99.51 rupees, while diesel prices have risen to 95.20 rupees per litre from 92.49 rupees per litre.
Officials attribute the continuous rise in fuel prices to elevated international crude oil prices and the weakening value of the Indian rupee, which has significantly raised import costs for oil marketing companies.
These repeated hikes are expected to further impact transportation costs and household budgets across the country.
