Udhampur administration reviews pre monsoon and flood preparedness measures

UDHAMPUR, MAY 23 — Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa chaired a high-level meeting with line department officers today to evaluate pre-monsoon and flood preparedness measures across the district.

The discussion focused on critical aspects of disaster readiness, including the extensive cleaning and desilting of drains and water channels, the establishment of integrated control rooms, and the implementation of daily weather reporting mechanisms.

Officials also addressed the monitoring of river gauge levels and the identification of areas highly vulnerable to floods and landslides.The meeting further reviewed health and logistics preparedness, emphasizing fogging operations to prevent water-borne and vector-borne diseases, the availability of medical supplies and essential commodities in remote areas, and the regular supply of safe drinking water.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to maintain a high state of alertness and stressed that strong inter-departmental coordination is vital for a prompt and efficient response to any weather-related emergency.

Additionally, departments were instructed to audit their rescue equipment, while the Civil Defence unit was directed to conduct regular mock drills to enhance overall emergency response mechanisms in the district.
