Reasi police arrest three drug peddlers including interstate suspect from Punjab in Katra
REASI, May 22, 2026 — Continuing its intensive drive against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, the District Police Reasi achieved a significant breakthrough by recovering heroin and arresting three accused individuals in the holy town of Katra.
During a routine hotel inspection on May 21, a police team apprehended Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Nagrota, and Manjeet Kaur, an interstate suspect hailing from Amritsar, Punjab, from Devi Lodge after finding them in an intoxicated condition.
A physical search led to the recovery of approximately 2.5 grams of heroin alongside foil papers and other incriminating material from their possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo was allegedly involved in local drug abuse and intended to sell the contraband substance to the youth of Reasi district.
Following up on immediate leads, the police also apprehended a third individual, Varinder Singh of Mari, Reasi, who had arrived at the spot to purchase the narcotics, and seized cash amounting to Rs 26,730 that he had brought for the transaction.
A formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Katra Police Station, and further investigations are currently underway to trace the broader supply network.
