Altaf Bukhari demands immediate relief and rehabilitation for families affected by Sidhra demolition drive
SRINAGAR, May 22, 2026 — Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to ensure immediate relief, compensation, and rehabilitation for the families affected by the recent demolition drive in Sidhra, Jammu.
Critiquing the administration, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari stated that empty condemnation statements from ruling party leaders, including those holding powerful portfolios in the government, are meaningless in the face of such human suffering.
He highlighted that the families devastated by the ruthless demolition drive on May 19 are still waiting for an assurance from the elected government, which cannot escape accountability since every involved department functions under its mandate.
Describing the heartbreaking conditions of the victims who are currently living under temporary polythene shelters in the scorching heat without electricity and water, the Apni Party chief noted that many families have decided not to celebrate the upcoming Eid al-Adha due to grief.
Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari concluded that the situation is a moral test for the government, calling on the administration to stop politicizing the pain of the victims and to act with courage and compassion to fulfill its responsibility towards the affected people.
