Deputy Chief Minister inaugurates Drugmulla Hatmulla Bridge during Handwara development tour

HANDWARA, MAY 21, 2026 — Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary conducted an extensive tour of Handwara in Kupwara district today to review ongoing developmental works, assess public facilities, and lead a series of public outreach programmes across multiple locations.

Accompanied by Member of Parliament Chowdhury Mohammad Ramzan and MLA Uri Sajjad Shafi, the Deputy Chief Minister inaugurated the long-awaited 110-meter-long Drugmulla–Hatmulla Bridge over Nallah Apurpur. He noted that the newly completed bridge will significantly improve connectivity, mobility, and transport ease for the residents of Drugmulla and surrounding areas, granting them better access to essential services and local opportunities.

During the tour, Surinder Choudhary visited the Bus Stand and Main Market in Handwara to address large gatherings of local transport and trader associations. He assured the stakeholders that the government remains committed to their welfare and will address all genuine issues on a priority basis.

He emphasized that the current administration is fast-tracking several long-pending projects in Handwara, announcing that work will soon commence on various vital road and bridge projects, including five recently approved roads under the PMGSY scheme.

Additionally, the Deputy Chief Minister directed concerned authorities to identify suitable land for the construction of a Labour Sarai facility in Handwara to benefit workers and commuters.

The developmental review also included inspections of local macadamization works and healthcare infrastructure. Surinder Choudhary visited Government Medical College Handwara, holding detailed discussions with the Principal, doctors, and staff regarding infrastructure, medical equipment, and essential facilities to ensure quality patient care.

He later inspected the ongoing construction of the 12.5 crore rupees Bakhiaker Bridge project, instructing officials to ensure its completion within the next three months to further enhance regional mobility.

Senior officers from PMGSY, R&B, Mining, DICQ, Labour and Employment, and the district administration accompanied the delegation throughout these inspections.In addition to infrastructure reviews, the Deputy Chief Minister hosted public outreach initiatives at Rajwar in Bungus and other locations to interact directly with public delegations.

He highlighted the immense natural beauty and tourism potential of Rajwar Bungus, reiterating the government’s commitment to responsive governance and sustainable growth initiatives for the local population.

Earlier in the day, Surinder Choudhary also visited the residence of MP Er Sheikh Abdul Rashid and MLA Sheikh Khurshied at Mawar, Langate, to offer his condolences and express sympathies following the demise of their father.
