India maintains stable fuel supply as refineries ramp up LPG and petroleum production
NEW DELHI, May 21, 2026 — The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that India possesses a sufficient supply of crude oil, natural gas, petrol, and diesel to comfortably satisfy domestic energy requirements.
Refineries across the country are currently operating at optimum capacity to meet ongoing demand. To further secure domestic energy needs, liquefied petroleum gas production has been significantly accelerated, with national refineries now producing between 46,000 and 47,000 tonnes of LPG daily.
The supply of domestic cooking gas remains highly stable, with distribution networks successfully fulfilling consumer demands.
Over the last three days, oil marketing companies successfully delivered 1.34 crore domestic LPG cylinders against 1.32 crore customer bookings, achieved through a 96 percent completion rate utilizing delivery authentication codes.
Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, stated that the structured delivery system has ensured consistent availability for households nationwide.In the commercial and alternative fuel sectors, the supply chain has maintained a robust momentum since the beginning of the month.
Total commercial LPG supply since May 1 has reached approximately 13,32,000 tonnes, which includes 23,588 tonnes sold over the recent three-day period. Additionally, auto LPG sales reached 963 tonnes during the same three days, while the distribution of smaller 5-kg LPG cylinders reached approximately 18.87 lakh units to cater to specific consumer segments.
