Multilateral military exercise Pragati 2026 begins in Meghalaya with 12 nations
UMROI, May 20, 2026: The multilateral military exercise Pragati 2026 commenced today at Umroi, Meghalaya, with participation from 12 friendly foreign countries, including Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.
The opening ceremony marked the official start of the two-week joint exercise, which is designed to enhance operational synergy, build mutual trust, and strengthen collective defense capabilities among the participating nations.
During his address to the international contingents, Additional Director General Infantry, Major General Sunil Sheoran, highlighted the critical importance of cohesion, interoperability, and collective engagement when addressing contemporary global security challenges.
Over the next two weeks, Exercise Pragati 2026 will focus on counter-terrorism operations executed in semi-mountainous and jungle terrain through joint planning exercises, tactical drills, and highly coordinated field operations.
