Udhampur girls honored by civil society after winning international karate medals
UDHAMPUR, May 20, 2026: The civil society of Udhampur organized a grand felicitation ceremony to honor nine young women from the district who won gold and silver medals at an international karate championship held in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
The prestigious tournament featured participants from ten different countries, making the achievements a significant milestone for the district, the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and the nation.All nine athletes hail from the Panchari and Moungri tehsils of Udhampur district. The team secured a total of three gold and six silver medals during the international event. Manisha Devi, Jyoti Devi, and Kamlesh Devi were specially recognized for clinching gold medals, while Sushila Bharati, Renu Devi, Minakshi Devi, Pooja Devi, Kiran Devi, and Divti Devi were celebrated for winning silver medals.
Several prominent dignitaries attended the event to applaud the athletes, including Deputy Inspector General of Police Udhampur-Reasi Range Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Director SKPAU Benam Tosh, MLA Udhampur East Pawan Kumar Gupta, President Chamber of Commerce and Industries Udhampur Sham Kalsotra, and President Beopar Mandal Udhampur Jatinder Varmani.
District BJP President Arun Gupta, social activists Sunil Badyal, Arun Seth, Sumit Gupta, and Kailash Dutt, along with former administrative officials Gandharb Singh and Balwant Singh, and regional journalists were also present to offer their congratulations.
The dignitaries praised the girls and their families for the marvelous achievement and extended their best wishes for their future athletic endeavors.
