Ganderbal chemists observe district-wide strike against e-pharmacies and online medicine sales

Ganderbal May 20,2026 :- Ganderbal Chemists and Distributors association observed a district-wide strike on Wednesday 20th May as part of a nationwide protest against the increasing trend of e-pharmacies and online medicine sales.

Chemists Shop’s across various areas of the district remained closed during the protest, with chemists expressing serious concerns regarding patient safety, unregulated distribution of medicines, and the growing impact of online platforms on licensed pharmacy businesses.

The protesting chemists stated that the unchecked sale of medicines through online channels could lead to the misuse of drugs, circulation of counterfeit medicines, and violations of healthcare regulations.

They emphasized that medicines should only be dispensed under the supervision of qualified professionals to ensure responsible healthcare practices and patient safety.

Participants in the strike appealed to the government to introduce stricter regulations for online medicine platforms and ensure that existing pharmaceutical laws are implemented effectively.

They also urged the authorities to safeguard the interests of licensed chemists and traditional pharmacies serving local communities.

Several chemists and druggists from different parts of the district participated in the protest, voicing unity in protecting public health and preserving the integrity of the pharmacy sector.
