Udhampur NDPS Case: Chenani Court Orders Auction of Seized Truck Involved in Heroin Smuggling
UDHAMPUR, May 18, 2026: In a major legal breakthrough against drug trafficking under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class in Chenani has ordered the disposal and public auction of a commercial vehicle seized in a high-profile narcotics case. The judicial order marks a decisive step by the Udhampur Police to target the logistics and assets used by drug smugglers in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
The court order is tied to FIR No. 42/2026, registered at the Chenani Police Station under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act, following the recovery of 59.85 grams of heroin (locally known as Chitta). During the initial investigation, law enforcement officials intercepted and seized a Tata Truck bearing registration number JK05C-8263, which was allegedly being used to transport the contraband substance.
Following a formal application moved by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Chenani under Section 52-A of the NDPS Act, the court officially certified the physical inventory and photographic evidence of the seized vehicle. The magistrate subsequently directed the concerned Drug Disposal Committee to initiate the disposal process. In compliance with strict legal protocols, the truck will be put up for a public auction, and the generated revenue will be securely deposited into the Government Treasury pending the final verdict of the case.
