Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister completes online self-enumeration for Census 2027
SRINAGAR, May 18, 2026:- Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary successfully completed his self-enumeration exercise at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, marking a major push toward the promotion of digital data submission under Census 2027.
The exercise was conducted under the guidance of Amit Sharma, Chief Principal Census Officer and Director of Census Operations and Citizen Registration for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Other cabinet ministers, including Sakeena Itoo, Javid Ahmad Dar, and Satish Sharma, also undertook the online process alongside several legislators, including Tanvir Sadiq, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Hasnain Masoodi, and Iftikhar Ahmad.
During the session, the Director of Census Operations guided the dignitaries through the various features of the digital platform, assisting them in successfully submitting their details online.
The Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the simple, citizen-friendly, and technology-driven nature of the system, expressing satisfaction with the ease and efficiency of the digital submission process.
He described the initiative as an important step toward transparent, modern, and participatory governance, while calling upon all residents of Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate through the official portal before the May 31, 2026 deadline.
He emphasized that the census is an exercise of national importance, noting that accurate demographic data plays a crucial role in planning, governance, and the implementation of welfare and developmental programs.
He further appealed to youth, students, government employees, and digitally aware citizens to lead the initiative and motivate their communities to participate.
The participating ministers and legislators also commended the Directorate of Census Operations for introducing these digital initiatives and conducting extensive awareness campaigns across the region.
During his interaction with the leaders, Amit Sharma highlighted that Census 2027 will be India’s first fully digital and paperless census exercise, incorporating advanced features such as mobile-based data collection, geo-referenced mapping, and real-time monitoring systems.
He explained that the self-enumeration facility allows citizens to voluntarily submit their details online during the notified period prior to household visits by enumerators, thereby enhancing convenience and data accuracy.
He added that the portal is designed as a secure, multilingual platform with built-in validation systems to facilitate smooth public participation.
