Dhul Hijjah crescent moon sighted marking start of holy Islamic month and Eid Al Adha 2026 dates
SRINAGAR, May 17 — The crescent moon for the holy Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah 1447 was officially sighted today, marking the commencement of one of the most sacred periods in the Islamic calendar. Following the confirmed moon sighting, Monday, May 18, 2026, will be observed as the first day of Dhul Hijjah.
This monthly alignment establishes the timeline for the annual Hajj pilgrimage rituals and the subsequent major festive celebrations for the global Muslim community.
With the beginning of the holy month officially determined, the significant dates for the upcoming religious observances have also been established.
The Day of Arafah, which forms the pinnacle of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, will be observed on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Consequently, the festival of Eid Al Adha, celebrated widely with prayers and sacrificial feasts, will commence on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
