Tragic drowning incident at Budhkhanari waterfall leaves one youth dead and two injured in Rajouri

RAJOURI, May 17, 2026 :— A tragic drowning incident at the Budhkhanari waterfall in the Darhal area of Rajouri district resulted in the death of a local youth, while two others were injured and admitted to the hospital.

A group of friends had visited the waterfall to find relief from the scorching heat when they were suddenly caught in the deep water and strong currents, leading to the drowning.

Following the incident, one youth went missing in the water, prompting a large-scale rescue and search operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF, Army, civil administration, and local residents. Local divers also played a crucial role in the operation.

After several hours of intense effort, the body of the missing youth was recovered today.The incident has left the entire area in mourning.

The police have taken custody of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination, while further legal proceedings into the matter have been initiated.
