Army Aviation helicopter airlifts kidney to save soldier wife life
CHANDIMANDIR, May 17, 2026 :- Command Hospital Chandimandir, under the aegis of HQ Western Command, collaborated with PGIMS Rohtak to successfully retrieve and rapidly air transport a kidney from a brain-dead road accident victim.
An Army Aviation helicopter executed the critical life-saving mission from Chandimandir to Rohtak and back with precision, operating within stringent timelines to secure the organ.
The harvested kidney was swiftly airlifted along with a specialized medical team from Command Hospital Western Command for an urgent transplant procedure.
The successful transplant provided a new lease of life to the wife of a serving soldier, demonstrating exceptional operational efficiency and seamless civil-military coordination.
The critical mission highlighted the humanitarian commitment of the Indian Army in utilizing tactical aviation assets for emergency medical relief. The timely intervention ensured that the organ remained viable for the surgical procedure at Chandimandir.
