CM Omar Abdullah Meets Parliamentary Committee to Fast-Track J&K Power Sector Reforms​

GULMARG, APRIL 13: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with a study group of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy today in Gulmarg to discuss a strategic roadmap for revitalizing the power sector in Jammu & Kashmir.

During the high-level interaction, the Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening energy infrastructure and enhancing power reliability to meet the Union Territory’s escalating demand.

He emphasized the critical need for sustained investment to ensure that all sections of society have access to affordable and consistent electricity, while also highlighting the immense potential for J&K to become a leader in hydroelectric and renewable energy initiatives.​

The discussion, attended by MLA Gulmarg Pirzada Farooq Ahmed Shah, covered a wide range of challenges currently facing the power sector, with the Committee outlining their objectives for assessing the region’s energy landscape.

Chief Minister Abdullah welcomed the group’s insights and assured full state cooperation in implementing the Committee’s recommendations to modernize the energy grid.

By focusing on fast-tracked reforms and clean energy production, the Chief Minister aims to transform the power sector into a catalyst for regional economic growth, ensuring that Jammu & Kashmir moves toward a more secure and sustainable energy future.
