CM Omar Abdullah Presents Major Demands for Grants in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly
Jammu, February 18, 2026 — During a high-stakes Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah officially moved 13 primary Demands for Grants and 19 supplementary Demands.
Presided over by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, the presentation initiated a rigorous legislative review of the government’s fiscal roadmap. The Chief Minister proposed that the aggregate sums for the specified demand numbers be granted to the Government to cover essential charges for the upcoming financial year ending March 31, 2027, as well as supplementary requirements for the current cycle ending March 31, 2026.
The Demands for Grants tabled by the Chief Minister cover a broad spectrum of critical governance sectors under his direct portfolio. These include the General Administration Department (GAD), Planning, Monitoring and Development, Finance, Power, and Information. Additionally, the funds are earmarked for vital public-facing departments such as Tourism, Revenue, Housing, Disaster Management, and Culture, as well as legal and administrative wings like Law & Justice and Estates.
This comprehensive financial motion aims to streamline departmental operations and ensure the timely execution of public welfare projects across the Union Territory.
The Legislative Assembly has scheduled a two-day window, spanning February 18 and 19, to allow members of the House to engage in a detailed discussion on these budgetary allocations. Following the deliberation, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is expected to deliver a formal reply to the house on the afternoon of February 19.
The proceedings will culminate in a voice vote to officially pass the demands, marking a decisive step in the administration’s fiscal planning for the next two years.
