BARAMULLA/PULWAMA, Feb 8: Strengthening the offensive against the unauthorized extraction of natural resources, the Jammu and Kashmir Police seized five vehicles and a massive illegal sand dump during multiple raids across the Baramulla, Pulwama, and Awantipora districts on Sunday.
The synchronized operations are part of a continuous enforcement drive aimed at protecting the region’s ecology from the illegal mining and transportation of minerals.In Baramulla, police officials intercepted a tipper (JK05B1445) and a tractor at Chakloo for the illegal transport of sand.
During the same operation, authorities identified and seized a major illegal dumping site containing approximately 315 metric tons (MTS) of sand. Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMRD Act) to address these violations.
Simultaneously, in Pulwama, a police team from the Kakapora station intercepted a tipper (JK03C-5488) near the River Jhelum at Marvel. The vehicle was found carrying illegally extracted minerals, leading to the registration of FIR No. 11/2026 under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Furthermore, in the Awantipora district, police at Khrew seized two additional vehicles—a tipper and a dumper—involved in similar unlawful activities, resulting in the filing of FIR Nos. 06/2026 and 07/2026.The J&K Police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular enforcement drives to deter the unlawful extraction of minerals.
Authorities emphasized that these strict measures are necessary to safeguard public assets and warned that anyone found violating environmental and mining laws will face rigorous legal action.
