JAMMU, FEBRUARY 06, 2026 — During the ongoing Budget Session’s Question Hour, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reassured the House that the government is prioritizing administrative efficiency in remote regions, specifically noting that vacancies in the Gurez area have been largely addressed.
Responding to a query from MLA Gurez, Nazir Ahmed Khan, the Chief Minister—who also oversees the General Administration Department—affirmed that staff postings in Gurez now closely align with sanctioned strengths and are conducted strictly according to established protocols.
While acknowledging that routine administrative cycles can cause temporary gaps, he emphasized that there is no “acute shortage” hindering public service delivery in these isolated pockets. The Chief Minister further detailed the legal framework governing these recruitments, noting that all appointments, including Class-IV posts, fall under the Jammu & Kashmir Civil Services (Decentralization and Recruitment) Act, 2010.
Following the 2019 Reorganisation Act, current regulations mandate that employment eligibility is based on a Union Territory-wide domicile status. He clarified that while the government is committed to ensuring every region is well-staffed, the current law does not provide for area-specific reservations, ensuring a standardized recruitment process across all districts of Jammu & Kashmir.
