UDHAMPUR, JANUARY 23, 2026 — In a significant blow to pharmaceutical smuggling networks, the Jammu & Kashmir Drugs Control Organization (DCO) successfully intercepted a massive illegal shipment of 8,000 Pregabalin-300 capsules being transported via a private courier service.
Acting on precise intelligence and routine surveillance, a specialized team of Drugs Control Officers, including Rakesh Singh Slathia and Narinder Parvesh under the supervision of Assistant Drugs Controller Sanjeev Gupta, conducted a strategic raid at a local courier hub. Upon inspection, officials discovered a suspicious, undocumented parcel containing the “SP-NYL-300” formulation.
While Pregabalin is medically prescribed for neuropathic pain, it is increasingly misused by antisocial elements for intoxication. The shipment was immediately confiscated under Form-16 of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940, as it lacked the necessary legal paperwork.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the contraband was routed from a neighboring state with the intent of illegal distribution within the Union Territory. This operation follows a recent seizure of 4,500 similar capsules, prompting State Drugs Controller Rajesh Kumar to order intensified monitoring of all transport and courier agencies.
Commissioner FDA, Smita Sethi, reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to eradicating the drug menace and ensuring strict legal consequences for those exploiting pharmaceutical channels for illicit trade.
