Indian Army Medical Unit in MONUSCO Receives Prestigious UN Unit Appreciation for Exemplary Service in DR Congo

NEW DELHI 30 December :- In a significant recognition of India’s commitment to global peacekeeping, the India Level II Plus Hospital deployed with the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) has been honored with the SRSG and Head of Mission Unit Appreciation.

During the Medal Day Parade in Goma on December 29, 2025, Contingent Commander Col Rajesh W Adhau received the citation from Brig Salil MP, recognizing the unit’s “exemplary professionalism and operational resilience.” This prestigious award highlights the hospital’s extraordinary performance during the intense armed conflict near Goma in early 2025, where the team provided uninterrupted, life-saving medical care to UN peacekeepers and civilians despite being caught in crossfire and facing direct security threats.

The commendation, supported by a message from MONUSCO Force Commander Lt Gen Ulisses De Mesquita Gomes, specifically praises the Indian medical contingent for its “calm leadership” and ability to manage simultaneous crises, including outbreaks of Monkeypox, cholera, and tuberculosis.

By maintaining high standards of medical judgment and effective coordination with Force Headquarters under extreme pressure, the unit has directly strengthened the mission’s credibility.

Beyond their clinical duties, the hospital was lauded for its humanitarian outreach and training support provided to other contingents, further solidifying India’s reputation as a dependable and compassionate security partner on the international stage.
