JAMMU, DECEMBER 28: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over the 3rd Meeting of the University Council of the Cluster University of Jammu at Lok Bhavan today, emphasizing a renewed focus on innovation, employability, and entrepreneurship.
As Chancellor of the University, Sinha stressed that higher education must align with regional and national development goals to meet the demands of modern industry. During the session, the Council granted in-principle approval to several landmark academic and administrative reforms designed to harmonize the university’s operations with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This includes the adoption of a new undergraduate curriculum framework and a total revision of course structures to enhance student flexibility and job readiness.
A major highlight of the meeting was the approval of diverse new academic offerings, including the Four-Year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), M.A. Education, Masters in Performing Arts, and specialized post-graduate courses in Geography and Cyber Security. To encourage holistic development, the Council confirmed student-centric measures such as awarding additional credits for sports and cultural activities, along with revised norms for MOOCs and more inclusive admission policies.
The Lieutenant Governor instructed the university to fully implement the e-office system by June 2026 and mandated that Council meetings occur every six months to ensure consistent institutional growth and effective governance.Beyond academic reforms, the Lieutenant Governor called for heightened student engagement in national initiatives such as the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect and the Nasha Mukt Bharat (Drug-Free India) campaign.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. S. Chandrasekar provided a comprehensive presentation on the university’s financial and academic progress, highlighting research collaborations and student enrollment trends. The meeting saw participation from high-ranking officials including Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice-Chancellor Cluster University Srinagar Prof. Mohammad Mobin, and Additional Chief Secretary of Higher Education Shantmanu, all of whom discussed strategies to elevate the standard of higher education across the region.
