BHADERWAH, January 22, 2026 — A tragic road accident on the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road has claimed the lives of 10 Army Jawans and left 11 others injured.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning when a Casspir Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, carrying 21 personnel from a Rashtriya Rifles unit, skidded off the mountain road and plunged into a 250-foot deep gorge near Khanni Top.
The personnel were reportedly conducting routine surveillance of high-altitude areas at an elevation of approximately 9,000 feet above sea level when the driver lost control around 10:00 AM. Local authorities and emergency services initiated a prompt rescue operation, transporting the injured to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Bhaderwah.
Medical officials confirmed that three soldiers were declared dead on arrival, while others succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Official confirmed 10 fatalities. Ten of the injured have been airlifted to the Command Hospital in Udhampur for specialized care, while one soldier remains under observation at SDH Bhaderwah.
While civil and police administrations have confirmed the death toll, an official statement from the Indian Army is currently awaited.
